But as soon as vehicles and machines become electric, a new operational challenge immediately arises: how do you charge them quickly enough to maintain operational readiness and productivity?
That’s why, during DEMO DAYS 2026 on September 4, 5, and 6 in Boussu, we’ll be demonstrating two practical applications of 240 kW DC fast charging.
One fast-charging solution is designed for electric trucks. A second solution supports electric earthmoving equipment on the demo site.
In this way, we’ll not only demonstrate what’s technically possible, but above all, how powerful charging infrastructure can be deployed in various professional applications.
Electric trucks and machinery require a different charging strategy
Charging an electric passenger car is one thing. An electric truck or heavy construction machine places entirely different demands on charging capacity, available energy, and scheduling.
Larger battery packs require higher charging capacities when vehicles and machinery need to be back in service quickly. The Atlas Copco 240 kW DC fast charger provides a nominal charging capacity of 240 kW for this purpose, with 2 CCS2 charging connectors, a charging current of up to 300 A, and an output voltage ranging from 200 to 1,000 VDC.
This makes this DC fast charger suitable for a wide range of applications in heavy-duty electric equipment and transportation.
240 kW DC Fast Charging for Electric Earthmoving Equipment
Electrification is also on the rise in the earthmoving sector. There, the challenge is often even more acute.
An electric excavator, wheel loader, or other construction machine must remain operational as much as possible during a workday. Traveling to a distant charging station takes time. Long charging periods limit operational availability.
That’s why, during DEMO DAYS, we’re showcasing a second 240 kW DC fast-charging solution, specifically for the electric earthmoving machines of various exhibitors.
Visitors will see how electric equipment is actually charged during a live demo event.
More Than Just a Fast Charger
A DC fast charger is just one component of a good energy solution.
A 240 kW charging station also requires sufficient available power. At some locations, the power grid can easily supply that capacity. At other locations, however, the grid connection is the limiting factor.
That’s why at Fimatec, we look at the entire application: which vehicles or machines need to be charged, how much energy do they require, when do they need to be available, and what power capacity is available on-site?
When the available grid power is limited, energy storage can, for example, play a role in supporting high power demands. Atlas Copco positions its ZBC Battery Energy Storage Systems, among other things, for applications where electrical loads peak and the available grid power is insufficient.
What about electric passenger cars?
During DEMO DAYS, there will also be a charging station for electric passenger cars.
We discussed that concept in more detail in a previous article, so we won’t go into it further here. In this article, we’re deliberately focusing on applications that require significantly higher power: electric trucks and electric earth-moving equipment.
